Take the necessary equipment with you and have an extreme descent into the cave, trying not to slip on the slippery stones.
How to walk through the Skotino Cave on Crete
Officially, the Skotino Cave is closed to visit, as there is a big risk for travelers to slip on the slippery rocks and get lost in the cave's chambers.

Cave is located near the Skotino village, which you can reach from Hersonissos on a bike, car or on foot (about 5 kilometers from the village of Kata Gouves). You can get to the bus stop number 13 in the village of Kata Gouves. There will be an asphalt road surrounded by mountains which leads right to the village.

Before the descent take care of your gear: flashlight, gloves, comfortable shoes with soles tenacious, warm things (it's pretty cool in the Skotino cave). You can reach the observation deck and make some good photos, or try to go down into the cave with a latern.

Begin your descent carefully. Constantly dripping water wets the stones and makes them very slick. There are two chambers in the Skotino cave, and the cave is about several meters deep. It is very dangerous to go to the lower chamber alone, especially without equipment.

Beautiful and unguarded cave, where only rare travelers come and where stalactites and stalagmites form fanciful shapes.
