Shortly before the Chernobyl disaster, here, in Pripyat, located in a couple kilometers from the power plant, the construction of the KGB building began.
KGB building, Chernobyl
Pripyat was very young city, it was built for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant employees and their families. The headquarters of the most gloomy Soviet Union's secret service - KGB (committee of state security) - was placed on the fifth floor of the city executive committee building (called "gorispolkom"), while the separate KGB building was constructing.

But they didn't have time to finish the building: the explosion happened and the city was evacuated. The KGB building is now placed among other abandoned houses.
