Take part in Venice Carnival

#16 of 34 things to do in Venice
The Venice 2017 Carnival (the Carnevale) will take place from February 11 to February 28, so you still have time to thoroughly prepare for it. Anyone can take part in the carnival, you just need to buy a mask and embark on a procession in Venice!

The festival starts on St. Mark's Square. The program includes a carnival, street theater performances, water parade on the Grand Canal, and beauty pageants, where the city will choose the most beautiful girl in the town.

You can join the carnival at any time. The carnival in Venice is a bright event you will never forget and will talk about it to all your friends and acquaintances for a long time.

Tips and hints: you can win the costume contest, if you want. Costumes are divided into historical and specific. You can dress up like the king, or hero from comics — the main thing that it must be unusual, conspicuous and consistent costume. Costume contest takes place at the La Fenice Theatre for 2-3 days before the end of the carnival. You can buy tickets at the box office at the theater, or to see everything for free standing a short distance from the scene (it is in the open air).

Prices: participation is free, you just need to buy a mask (from €5). You can buy a mask in any shop in Venice. Even cheap masks for €5 can be unusual ;-)
