Not so long ago, some 30 years ago, almost all Emirati women wore special masks that covered their faces in public places. Soon, this tradition will sink into oblivion, but you can still find and try the outlandish accessory on :-) Of course, this adventure is more suited for women, but men will be curious to see it. And, of course, a burqa will make an unusual souvenir.
Burqa is a traditional attribute of Emirati women's clothing. Burqa resembles a metal mask, but, in fact, it is usually made of heavily starched linen, painted in gold color.
Some types of burqa remind of falcon features and some masks resemble shaggy eyebrows and moustache :-) Burqa is considered a symbol of beauty and grace.
Prices: prices of handmade burqas start from 20 dirhams; they can be purchased in some stores and shops.
