How to surf at Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro
The 4 kilometers of the golden Copacabana beach are surrounded by large rocks. A strong sea current creates high waves tempting surfers from all around the globe.

Surfing novices practice first skills closer to the coast, whereas more experienced surfers can test their strength in the most dangerous part of the beach.

You can hardly have a relaxing swim at Copacabana. Instead, you could stretch your legs on a surfboard. The most experienced surfers are drawn to the so-called "damned place", the outermost point of the beach Arpoador. Something really out of this world is going on here – the incredible power of water creates huge frightening waves to the delight of risky surfers.

And this is the place where qualifying rounds for the World Cup of Surfing take place.
