Try a peculiar Mexican dish - a blue corn tortilla or corn flatbread - a unique symbol of Mexico. Its unusual color comes from its major ingredient.
How to taste blue corn tortilla in Mexico City
Tortilla, or corn flatbread, is a unique symbol of Mexico, even more ancient one than machete and sombrero. Everyone who visits the country should try this flatbread. Besides, you can taste tortillas made from blue corn. These unusual tortillas are mostly preferred by the residents of the mountainous area.

According to the myths of the ancient civilizations, the god of maize once had a row with other gods. He then turned his back upon them, fell asleep in the ground, and spent there many a year. Over the time, from his hair sprang cotton, from his fingers – sweet potato, from his nails – varieties of maize, colored white, yellow and blue. The gods of rain and soil showed people how to make flour and then dough from maize. The sun was taken as the basis for the tortilla's shape, and the maize gave its color to the tortilla itself.

Since then, not a single feast does without tortillas. That is why you can taste the blue tortilla not only in street cafes and restaurants, but also at the locals' houses, regardless of their social level.
