At the beginning the Qasr al-Hosn fort was a round watchtower made to protect a well with fresh water, that was the only one at that time in Abu Dhabi. It was built in the late 18th century, and it was turned into a fort later. Sheikh lived here for a while.

In the XX century, the fort was completed with the first income from oil production and it became a fort-palace. For a long time this place was the family palace of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Now the fort-palace serves as a museum, in which there are exhibitions of artifacts, paintings, documents, which tell about the past of the UAE. In addition, the Qasr al-Hosn festival is held annually near it.
